AND THE WINNER IS…

RaeAnne Lindsay, Ms. Wheelchair USA 2024-2025

Illinois’ RaeAnne Lindsay wins the crown!  For the first time in history, two winners from the same state back-to-back!

RaeAnne Lindsay, Ms. Wheelchair USA 2024-2025

RaeAnne Lindsay, 34, was crowned the new Ms. Wheelchair USA on Sat., July 20 in front of a live theatre and tv audience. “I’m in shock!  I have absolutely no idea what I’ll do first,” she said as she was being crowned. The Ms. Wheelchair USA program celebrated its 27th year with a show titled G4…glitz, goals, grind, and glamour…the new pageant mantra.

Lindsay lives in Fisher, IL, and holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois.  She’s employed by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN in the Department of Education as a research assistant. RaeAnne not only won the national title, but was voted Miss Congeniality and also received the Dr. Georgi Hudson-Smith Quest for Knowledge award.

RaeAnne is no stranger to advocacy.  She has been involved in various community projects like advocating for a lower ballot box for voters who are not able to reach the usual ballot box, created a Disability guidebook for Universities and Colleges, and has been working to establish a Disability Culture Center on the university campus. RaeAnne is also heavily involved in developing inclusive and boundless playgrounds for all children and parents with disabilities to be able to play and access their local playgrounds.    She has been instrumental and hands-on in the building of several of these playgrounds in Illinois.

“I am excited to further my goal, with Ms. Wheelchair USA and The Dane Foundation and, with the help of this crown, I will be a national advocate for the younger generation to know what it’s like to play without barriers,” she said.  RaeAnne will be traveling throughout the US during her year of service, working to educate about and encourage development of inclusive playgrounds as well as growing the Ms. Wheelchair USA brand and fundraising for The Dane Foundation.

RaeAnne was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis that was triggered by a pesticide spray used at the place where she was living as an infant. As the youngest known in history with this disability, she wasn’t able to regain the muscle strength she lost during the initial illness.  She did regain movement and feeling at age four, but as a result of the damage to the spinal cord myelin, she has overall body weakness and lack of muscle growth.  RaeAnne uses a power chair for mobility.

The national competition for Ms. Wheelchair USA took place in Northeast Ohio July 14-21, 2024. Contestants spent the week participating in various press appearances, rehearsals, community events, and competitions that culminated in the crowning of Lindsay as Ms. Wheelchair USA 2024-2025.  She receives a prize package, as well as a booking and management contract to assist her in promoting her platform, and that of the Ms. Wheelchair USA organization, and The Dane Foundation, the presenting organization.  The Dane Foundation is an Ohio headquartered foundation that serves individuals with physical and developmental disabilities and is the presenting organization of the national Ms. Wheelchair USA program.

RaeAnne is available for appearances, speaking engagements, school or nursing home visits, presentations to caregivers/service providers of those with disabilities, parades, and more!
